Glorious Revolution (1688)
Great Britain became a constitutional monarchy.
-The king has to follow the constitution king works with Parliament.
-Parliament > King
-Parliament chooses new king
English Bill of Rights (1689)
All citizens must have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and a jury trial.

Elected government of Great Britain (elected government)
Royal Charter
A contract that sets up how colonies work.
-An agreement that sets up a colony
-Elected legislature must work with the governor.
Colonial Assemblies
Elected legislature of each colony. Would assemble taxes, however taxes also paid government officials.
VA House of Burgesse & MA General Court
Elected assemblies.
-Elected governor and assembly had to work together for local decision-making.
Republican virtue
Civic virtue- A “Moral Community”
1.Hardworking, self-sacrificing, and opposed corruption.
2.”Democracy” depended on unselfish commitment to each citizen.
3.Curbing ones passions and moderating ones option in order to achieve a large consensus.
Salutary Neglect
Turning a blind eye because no one is getting hurt. (The smuggling that was happening)
-Salutary=Beneficial
Atlantic Trade Network
There were 4 key trading areas:
-England, North America, Caribbeans, and West Africa.
-Slave trading begins
-Brings complex trading networks, there were some rules but England didn’t care because everyone was rich.
Urbanization
Cities began to grow and higher living wages.

Special craftsmen
Consumer Revolution of the 1700s
No longer struggling. Respectable people that would live in America.
