Unit 3-4 Flashcards
What is a neuron?
The cells that communicate to process information
What are the parts of a neuron?
Dendrites, Soma (Cell body), Axon
What do the dendrites do?
Recieve information from other neurons
What does the cell body do?
Coordinates info-processing tasks
What does the Axon do?
Send info to other neurons, muscles, etc.
What types of Neurons are there?
Sensory (touch/feel), Motor (responses), Interneurons (relay info)
What is the Axon hillock?
Connects the cell body to the axon
What is Conduction?
(electrical): the
movement of an electrical signal
within neurons
What is the difference between Resting vs Action Potential?
Resting: the natural
negative electric charge of neurons
Action: an electrical signal
conducted along a neuron’s axon
