What is emotional intelligence?
The ability to monitor ones own and others’ emotions, discriminating among them, and use the information gathered to guide ones thinking and actions
What does EI involve?
Being self aware, managing emotions, motivating oneself, having empathy, handling relationships
What is emotional wellness?
The ability to have and express thoughts, feelings, and emotions in an appropriate manner
What are some characteristics of emotional intelligence?
Connected, goal oriented, self-aware, flexible, self-caring, responsible, resilient
What is the difference between self-esteem and self-confidence?
Self-esteem is ones opinion of themselves. Self-confidence has to do with ones abilities and skills.
What are some aspects of self-confidence?
Feels it is okay whether they win or lose. Usually think ‘I can do this’. Eager to learn new things. Able to handle criticism. Try to do things without help, but don’t mind asking for help if they need it.
What are some aspects of self-esteem?
Feel good about themselves. Proud of what they can do but don’t need to show off. Knows there are some things they are good at and some things they need to improve.
What are some strategies for maintaining emotional wellness?
Brighten your outlook. Reduce stress. Get quality sleep. Strengthen social connections. Be mindful.
What are the 5 stages of grief?
Denial
Anger
Bargaining
Depressed mood
Acceptance
What are some signs of emotional distress?
Eating or sleeping too much, excessive smoking or drinking, competing vigorously for attention, becoming withdrawn, withdrawing from playgroups, having difficulty concentrating
Whats the difference between use, abuse, and addiction?
Use is any use of a drug or etoh. Abuse is when someone continues to use despite consequences. Addiction is physical dependence.
