-continue to fast map up to 20 new words a day
-6 yr old has 5,000-20,000 words
-11 yr old double your vocab
Definition of learning disability?
-neurological dsyfunction present
-problem with input, proccessing, and output
-uneven growth patterns (some skills age appropriate while others are delayed)
What is short term memory
-maintained by rehearsal
-limit of storage 7 new, 2 removed
-increased by chunking information into meaningful units
-aka working memory
what is long term memory
-unlimited capacity
-trouble? retrieval of info
-need to file correctly by relating to previously learned info
Components of ADHD
-turning attention on (procrastination)
-mainting attention (finishing a task

-inadequate social understanding
-may never speak/ be able to make eye contact
-repetitive or restrictive patterns of play
What is menarche/spermarche
-first menstrual period (menarche)
-develop primary sex characteristic
-usually cant procreate for 2 yrs
-socially most difficult for early maturing girls and late maturing boys
Effects of obesity
-diabetes, heart disease (high BP), strokes
-bullied, low selfesteem
