Unit 2a Flashcards
What are the five different versions of Windows Server 2008R2
Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, Web, and Server Core
What is it considered when two or more computers are linked together?
A network
What enables users to share devices, applications, exchange files, and communicate via email or video conferencing?
Networking Models
This type of networking is the simplest way to configure a network and focuses on spreading network resources among all clients of a network
Peer-to-peer
This type of networking centralizes the network administration on servers
Server-based
This term is commonly known as peer-to-peer networks. There is no centralized control and computers act as standalone systems.
Workgroups
A powerful tool allowing multiple sites, domains, and even the internet to fully integrate together
Active Directory
This term is a list of organizing resources and associates with their characteristics
Directory
This is at the top of the AD structure, and is a collection of one or more domain trees
Forest
A logical structure based on the requirements of an organization. It is a group of users, servers, and other resources sharing a centralized database of account and security information.
Domain
This is made up of several domains sharing a common schema and configuration forming a contiguous namespace
Domain Tree
Logical network resources in the network environment such as users, computers, printers, groups, and the attributes of these.
Objects
AD objects into which users, groups, and computers are placed. It is a container object used to organize objects within a domain and build the hierarchical domain structure.
Organizational Units
An object in AD that is not storing another object and signifies the endpoint of a tree or subtree.
Leaf
Lists the definitions of all object types created in AD and the information about those objects.
Schema
This part of AD defines how the domains are physically connected or structure to each other
Physical Structure
Critical to AD services, these are responsible for authenticating users, enforcing policies, and replication.
Domain Controllers
The process of modifying information on one DC while automatically synchronizing those modifications on other DCs
Replication
To allow access to network resources in other domains within a tree/forest, administrators may use this
Global Catalog Server
This is a server that is not configured as a domain controller
Member Server
This is a computer that has an account in AD
Domain Client
This helps prevent conflicts in AD
Flexible Single Master Operations (FSMO)
What are the two models for FSMO?
Multi-Master and Single-Master
This controls the addition or removal of domains in the forest
Domain ID Master DC
This is responsible for updating an AD object’s SID when cross-domain references are required, such as when a user account from one domain is added to a security group in another domain
Infrastructure Master DC
This is the authoritative time server for a domain, and is necessary to synchronize time in an enterprise system
Primary Domain Controller Emulator
This controls all updates and modifications to the schema
Schema Master DC
