Q

What can autotrophs do?
Is an energy source needed?

A

Autotrophs can make their own organic food from simple inorganic molecules; an energy source is needed

Q

What is autotrophic nutrition?

A

There are two types:

(Photoautotrophs)
Photosynthesis

And

Chemoautotrophs
(Chemosynthesis)

It occurs at the start of every food chain as all autotrophs are producers

Q

What can heterotrophic nutrition do?
What are the different types of heterotrophic nutrition?

A

Heterotrophs as a whole cannot make their own food and obtain their nutrients from autotrophs.

The different types of heterotrophic nutrition:

Saprophytic nutrition (saprobiotic)

Parasitic

Mutualistic

Holozoic

Q

Holozoic nutrition
And the different practices of Holozoic nutrition

A

..

Herbivores: feed only on plant material
Carnivores: feed only on other animals
Omnivores: feed on mixed diet
Detritivores: feed on dead and decaying material

Q

When remembering the different types of Holozoic nutrition, don’t…

A

Check answer!!!

Don’t confuse detritivores with decomposers. Detritivores are extremely important in their own right in our ecosystem. They don’t release enzyme’s extracellularly like decomposers do. They feed on that matter. Break the organisms down for the decomposers.
