Unit 2.1 Flashcards
Organisms and Evolution
Hazard
The potential for something to cause harm
Risk
The like hood that a hazard will cause harm
Point Count
Sampling technique that involves the observer recoding all individuals seen from a fixed location
Remote Detection
Ability to show an animals presence from a distance using an camera trap or scat location
Indicator Species
Presence, absence or abundance of indicator species can give information of environmental qualities, such as presence of a pollutant
Favorable Species
Abundance or increased population indicates it is favored by the environmental conditions
Susceptible Species
Absence or reduced population indicates a species is susceptible to some factor in the environment
Ethogram
Lists species - specific behaviors to be observed and recorded in the study
Latency
The time between a stimulus occurring and the response behaviour
Frequency
The number of times a behaviour occurs within the observation period
Duration
The length of time each behaviour occurs during the observation periods
Time Budget
Proportion of time that animals spend on different behaviours, or preforming different classes of behaviour
Anthropomorphism
The attribution of human characteristics or behavior and emotions to an animals behavior
Taxonomy
This involves the identification and naming of organisms and their classification into groups based on shared characteristics
Morphology
The form/shape/structure of an organism or part of an organism
