Founder of Islam. Religious, political, and military leader from Mecca who unified Arabia into a single religious polity.

Founder and Great Khan of the Mongol Empire. Came to power by uniting nomadic tribes of NE Asia and empire became largest contiguous empire after death. Empire also stabilized/utilized Silk Road.
Genghis (Chinggis) Khan
Grandson of Genghis Khan- Conquered China and created Yuan (Mongol) Dynasty
Kublai Khan
Venetian explorer and merchant who traveled to Yuan dynasty in China. Hosted by Kublai Khan at imperial palace, traveled through most of Asia.
Marco Polo
Muslim general and sultan of Egypt, defeated european crusaders in 3rd European Crusade (King’s Crusade)
Saladin
King of Mali famous for his Hajj journey. During trip he gave many gifts in many cities (like Cairo) which ruined economies.
Mansa Musa
Moroccan explorer known for his extensive travels through Africa, the Arabian peninsula, and Asia. Accounts of journey published in Rihla.
Ibn Battuta
Muslim philosopher who wrote many works based on both Islamic/Hellenistic philosophy and medicine. Canon of Medicine became standard medical text and many medieval univ.
Ibn Sina
Chinese court eunuch, mariner, explorer, diplomat, and fleet admiral, commanded voyages to SE Asia, S Asia, Middle East, E Africa during early Ming dynasty. Voyages meant to reestablish Chinese dominance in Indian Ocean trade.
Zheng He
Considered to be the founder of the Incan empire in S America. Took small tribes and united into one in late 15th century.
Pachacuti Inca
Italian Dominican priest and influential philosopher and theologian in tradition of scholasticism. Wrote Summa Theologica.
