Unit 2 ~ Muscle Tissue Flashcards
What muscle tissue can be controlled voluntarily?
Skeletal muscle and Smooth muscle
What muscles are striated but not branched?
Skeletal muscle
What muscle is only found in the heart?
Cardiac muscle
What muscle tissue is controlled involuntary?
Cardiac muscle
What muscle tissue is striated with disks?
Cardiac muscle
What muscle tissue does not have striated?
Smooth muscle
What is the function of Smooth muscle?
Surrounds hollow organs and moves stuff through them
What is the function of Cardiac muscle?
Constricts around itself
What is the function of Skeletal muscle?
Movement
What is the function of muscle tissue?
To produce movement by contracting or shortening
What are Intercalated disks?
Gap junctions that are visible in cardiac muscle tissue; specialized junctions that connect the individual cells
How does a relaxed smooth muscle look?
The nuclei are elongated with round ends
How does contracted smooth muscle look?
The nuclei spiral, kink, or twist
How can we tell that skeletal muscle tissue is highly vascular?
The presents of capillaries
