Biotic factors
All the living factors
Abiotic factors
Non-living components of an ecosystem
Population
All the organisms of one species that live in the same place at the same time and that can breed together
Community
All the population of different species that live in the same place at the same time, and can interact with each other.
Niche
The role each species plays in an ecosystem
Trophic level
The level at which an organism feed in a food chain
Consumers
Living organisms that feed in other living organisms
Producers
Autotrophic organisms that convert light energy to chemical energy which they then supply to consumers
Abundance
The relative representation of a species within an ecosystem
Belt Transect
A form of continuous quadrat sampling along a line
Climax Community
A community that has reached an equilibrium with the environment and no longer appears to be changing in composition.
Decomposer
An organism that obtains its energy and carbon from the extracellular digestion and absorption of dead or decaying matter
Denitrification
The removal of nitrogen compounds from the soil by bacteria
