Constituency
the people who vote to elect someone to office
Fillibuster
an argumentative tactic used to try and prevent a law from passing through the senate through outlasting its supporters in debate
Discretionary Spending
different ways the fed gov uses its leftover budget after fulfilling its mandatory spending
Mandatory Spending
money the fed gov has to spend on specific things with each yearly budget(like social security, paying congress, etc)
Budget Deficit
occurs when the fed gov spends more than its budget allows
Pork Barrel Legislation
random things being included in bills to gain support from specific reps, typically from the other political party, to help bills pass
Logrolling
agreements between reps to do favors for each other to advance political interests on both sides
Gerrymandering
the process of strategically redistricting to have a majority of districts that vote for the party in charge in a state
Redistricting
the redrawing of district lines based on population to ensure equal representation
Reapportionment
redrawing of district lines and its consequential shifting of seats in the house
Divided Government
a government where the executive and legislative branches are divided between two political parties
Trustee Model
when a rep believes they were elected so therefore the people believe they should make decisions for them based on the delegate’s beliefs
Delegate Model
the delegate acts as a mouthpiece for the constitutency
Politico Model
a combo of the other two models depending on the issue
Roles of the President
roles the president has that are listed specifically in the constitution
