On/Off
A lever, or switch that locks the camera into a power-on, or power-off state
Shutter Release Button
Used to take a picture when pressed fully down.
When only held half-way, can activate auto-focusing system, measures light coming through the lens, exit any menu, used to wake up camera
Mode Dial
Used to select from a variety of different shooting modes
Input Dials
Can be located on top or back of camera. Allows changing of shooting settings (aperture, shutter speed), and control of other functions (menu settings, choosing/moving focus points)
Top LCD/Back LCD Screens
Displays information regarding chosen settings, battery life, and pictures taken on their LCD screens. Some cameras have both a top and back LCD, some only back
Memory Card and Battery Slots
Where you place the SD card and battery, on bottom of camera
Menu
Enables camera menu
Display/Info
changes amount and type of information currently displayed on cameras rear LCD screen
Playback
Puts camera in playback mode, displaying image previously taken on the rear LCD.
Navigation Pad
Multi-use navigation control device. May be used for changing focus points, menu options, browsing of images, etc.
Diopter
mechanism that allows you to adjust your ability to see clearly into the viewfinder, it can either be a small dial or sliding lever located directly beside the viewfinder
