Define Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs
A pyramid that shows levels of human needs; Needs are in order from physical needs to self-actualization; Needs at the bottom of the pyramid are critical to sustain life;
The needs higher on the pyramid are secondary needs that are important for psychological health but are not critical to sustain life.
Name the Levels bottom to top and describe each
Physiological-need to satisfy hunger and thirst;
Safety-need to feel that the world is organized and predictable, need to feel safe, secure, and stable;
Love/belonging-need to love and be loved, to belong and be accepted, need to avoid loneliness and alienation;
Esteem-need for self-esteem, achievement, competence, and independence. Needs for recognition and respect from others;
Self-actualization-need to live up to one’s fullest and unique potential.
