Unit 2- Acids, Bases And Salts Flashcards
What ions makes solutions acidic? And ions that make solutions alkali?
Acidic: H+ ions
Alkali: OH- ions
What does and Acid + base make?
Salt + water
What does acid + metal make?
Salt + hydrogen
What salt would hydrochloric acid and copper oxide form?
Copper chloride
What do metals or insoluble bases react to make?
Soluble salts
What are the three steps in crystallisation?
1) mix an acid and another substance
2) filter out the liquid
3) evaporate excess liquid
What do you make soluble salts with?
Alkali
How do you make a soluble salt using alkali?
Add right amount of acid to neutralise alkali, us indicator to make sure. Then keep adding acid and alkali to uncontaminate it. Then evapourate
What do precipitation reactions make?
Insoluble salts
What happens in a precipitation reaction?
Mix the ions in the solution and let them precipitate to the bottom, filter out the liquid
What is an alkali?
A base that dissolves in water
