What are fine motor skills?
Skills that use the small muscles in our hands and wrists to make movements
Examples of fine motor skills
Drawing, finger painting
What are gross motor skills
Skills that use the bigger muscles such as the legs and arms
Examples of gross motor skills
Running, skipping
What is sensory development?
When the child starts to become more aware of their surroundings and gains coordination of the large muscles into their body, a baby or child begins to use their 5 senses
What fine motor skills can children do at 0-4 weeks
Turned head towards light and stared at shiny objects
Reacts to loud sounds
Hands are usually tightly closed and will grasp objects placed in hands
What gross motor skills can children do at 3 months?
Can wave the arms and bring the hands together over the body
Fine motor skills at 3 months
Moves the head towards the light and stares at shiny objects
Will show interest and excitement by facial expression and will gaze attentively at carer’s face while being fed
Fine motor skills 4-5 months?
Can transfer objects from hand to hand
Is very interested in all activities
Gross motor skills at 4-5 months?
Has good head control
Is beginning to reach for objects
Fine motor skills 6-9 months
Is alert to people and objects
Looks for fallen objects
Gross motor skills at 6-9 months
May attempt to crawl, but will often end up sliding backwards
May grasp feet and place in the mouth
Fine motor skills 9-12 months
Throws toys deliberately
Manages spoons and finger foods well

Words and phrases that children can understand and say
What are personal factors?
They are about your inherited traits and also what happened to u before and immediately after u were born
