What is a sacrament?
A religious ritual performed in the life of the Church that brings people into holiness
How does the Catholics Church describe a sacrament?
“An outward sign of an inward gift”
Why is baptism important?
Person becomes son/daughter of God
Person is freed from original sin
Person receives strength from God to continue Jesus’ mission
Why is confirmation important?
Strengthens faith ready to become mature catholic
Candidates receive the 7 gifts of the Holy spirit
Why is the eucharist important?
Receiving the real presence of Christ in physical way
Uniting catholic community through mass
Why is reconciliation important?
Removes spiritual illness of sin
Restores relationship with God and community
Why is anointing of the sick important?
Gives strength in sickness and suffering
Prepares person for death
Shows God’s presence and love throughout their life
What is Matrimony?
The joining of 2 people as one in marriage
Why’s Matrimony(Marriage) important?
Only sacrament which people give the sacrament to each other
Open to procreation and new life
What are holy orders?
The giving of a distinct mission within the Church
Why are holy orders important?
Priesthood establishes Christ’s presence throughout the ages in the sacraments
What is the sacramental nature of reality?
Finding the grace of God in the physical world
Which catholic sacraments aren’t considered sacraments for MOST Protestant Christians?
Confirmation, reconciliation, anointing of the sick, matrimony and holy orders
