Creatio ex nihilo
literally means, “creation out of nothing,” synthesizes and affirms the biblical testimony to the kind act with which God first created everything.
Deism
the belief that God exists, but that He is not directly involved in the world. That he is standoffish from what he has made
Pantheism
the belief that the world is itself divine
Panentheism
the belief that God and the world are so bound together that God could not exist without the world
Gnosticism
refers to a variety of groups in the ancient world that claimed to have secret knowledge that would open up doors of salvation
Gnostic Hierarchical Dualism
Divides creation into two: material (which is evil) and spiritual (which is good)
Holism
Recognizes the goodness of all that God has made
Providence
the doctrine that God is continually active and involved in with his creation
Governance
the part of the doctrine of providence referring to God’s work in guiding all things to the purpose for which they have been made and God’s active role over creation.
Theodicy
the attempt to justify God’s actions in light of the existence of evil
What are some reasons we can rule out when asked why God created?
