Republic
Democracy run by representatives who were voted into office. They had to be noble and well educated.
Democracy
Run by the people.They used the will of majority, and they voted for major issues. they must be educated citizens.
Senators
Legislative body. Composed mainly of aristocrats.
Consuls
Two who shared primary executive power = president
Assembly
All citizen members. those present made all major decisions of state . Met every 10 days
Setbacks of Assembly
Hard to aide quick decisions and many were uneducated.
Greek Philosopers
Wanted to find reason. they helped form education, scheme, history, and more
Aristotle
Learned from Plato. Wrote on how to organize government to the qualities of good literature an that we can learn from observation and evidence of the senses
Cicero
Political philosopher who coined the ides of no one is above the law. Had the idea that people should learn to accept the will of the gods and remain detached from pleasure and pain.
Socrates
Urges leaders to think of the greater good in decisions. Tutor of Plato, and urged rational reflection of moral decisions. he found reason and asked questions.
Plato
Learned for Socrates. Used the three perfect forms to understand human reason, absolutely true, good, and beautiful. He opened the Academy and taught students to question the nature of ideas
Checks and Balances
Prevented one man or one class from consoling the government.
Sparta and Athens
Ruled by wealthy/upper class/military aristocracy. They valued military strength and were focused on military policy. They imposed rigorous military service on upper class
Oligarchy
A small group of people having control
Monarchy
Not proffered. All citizens participate
