Unit 1.6 Flashcards
What are the three types of production?
1) Primary
2)Secondary
3)Tertiary
What is Primary Industry?
Primary Secondary involves extracting and selling natural resources
Mining, Farming, Lumberjack
are examples of ???
Primary Production
What is secondary industry?
Secondary production takes raw materials and processes them into manufactured goods
Furniture Manufacturer
Tayto
Coca Cola
are examples of??
Secondary Industry
What is tertiary industry?
Provides services to all other industries and members of the public
Banking is an example of
Tertiary
Explain Deindustrialization?
Is the downfall of secondary and primary production and rise in tertiary production
Give some reasons for changing trends on type of production
1) Increase in technology and automation requires fewer workers in primary production
2)Higher standard of education has qualified more people to work in the tertiary sector
What are the 4 methods of manufacturing?
1) Job
2) Batch
3) Process
4) Flow
Explain Job manufacturing
Job manufacturing is when one single item is completed at a time based on the customer’s unique specification
Examples of Job manufacturing
1) House Plans
2)designer clothes
Advantages of Job Manufacturing
1) Each piece is made to the customer’s exact requirements. This is beneficial because this will lead to more customer satisfaction(lead to more interest in the business)
2) Design is flexible and can be changed(This is beneficial because this will lead to more customer satisfaction(lead to more interest in the business)
Disadvantages of Job manufacturing
1)The products are very expensive as they are customized( TMT not everyone will be able to afford to purchase their products)
2) the work is very time consuming
Explain Batch Processing
Where several of the same product are made at the same time in batches.
Each product in the batch are identical
Newspapers
bread
clothing
are examples of
Batch Processing
Advantages of Batch Production
Businesses can use Batch Production to switch between flavors (This means that product range is varied)
Machinery may be used(This means that that less money will need to be used to spend on staff wages and will lead to more profits)
Disadvantages of Batch Processing
Machines may have to be reset between batches. This loses time
Explain Flow manufacturing
Flow manufacturing is when one product is made continuously in large numbers
Advantages of Flow Manufacturing
1) This takes advantage of economies of scale( this means that the overall price of the product will be cheaper and more people will be able to afford it)
2) Machinery is used( This means that less money will need to be spent on labor wages)
Disadvantages of Flow Manufacturing
1) Machinery breakdown can stop manufacturing( This is disadvantageous businesses will face downtime and lose money)
Explain Process Manufacturing
Refers to manufacturing of products which cannot be disassembled
involves the combination of ingredients according to formula
Advantage of Process Manufacturing
Ensures manufacturing is consistent with clear and detailed formula( This is advantageous because it increases efficiency and quality)
