What are the three stages of birth?
First stage uterine contractions

What happens during the first stage of birth?
Uterine contractions 12 to 14 hours
Contractions cause of cervix to stretch and open amniotic sac, irrupt, releasing amniotic fluid
What happens during the second stage of birth?
Delivery 45 minutes to an hour
Baby begins, moving out of the year is stage ends at the birth of the infant
What happens in the third stage of birth?
Afterbirth a few minutes
Placenta, umbilical cord, and other membranes are detach and expelled from the uterus
What is oxytocin?
Hormone that promotes uterine contractions
What is Pitocin?
Synthetic form of oxytocin that produces urine contractions 
What is the appear scale?
Method to assess health of newborns
Evaluates, infants, heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, body color, reflexes
What is a low birthweight infant
Way less than 5 1/2 pounds at birth
What is a preterm infant?
For three weeks or more before full-term
What is a small for date infant?
Babies who’s birth weight is below normal, when the length of pregnancy is considered
