Before even leaving the driveway, teens should know the proper position for driving and how to adjust the steering wheel safely.
What is the best position for driving?

A
  • The teens stomach should be 10 inches from the steering wheel and arms bent less than 90 degrees at the elbow
  • Ball of foot on brake pedal. Teen should be able to fully depress brake without lifting the heel of the foot
  • Seat adjustment should allow for a clear view of entire landscape out of the windshield. Top pf head restraint should be positioned 3 inches below the top of the head
  • Lap Belt: Low and across the hips, never over the stomach. Should strap over chest, never neck
  • Steering wheel positioned no higher than the to of the shoulders and should not obstruct view of the instrument panel. Hands should be at 9 and 3 o’clock positions
