unit 1.3 Flashcards
What is a hypothesis, explain in detail
A prediction about what will or should happen in an experiment. It is in If, then, because format.
What are the two main components of a scientific experiment
Control group and test group
What is the control group and what is the importance of it
It is the group that is kept the same and is not changed at all. It’s purpose it to be something that it reliable to give true comparisons of.
What is the test group
It is the group that is changed and is experimented on
Match the independent and dependent variable to the test group and control group
Dependant = control
Independent = test
What axis does the independent variable go on
x axis
what axis does the dependent variable go on
y axis
What is the purpose of the experiment
It is to prove a hypothesis or problem right or wrong.
What are error bars used for.
they are used to see the true difference in the data sets because the mean or average is not always able to be trusted.
What does overlapping error bars used for - give example
They are there to represent that the data is not really that far apart and if they aren’t overlapping there is a decent difference in the data. The error bars could overlap when the bars aren’t close due to an utliar but the data sets are precise with each other.
Create a hypothesis about how a sunflower will grow with sunlight
The growth of a sunflower depends on the amount of sunlight it is given. If the sunflower is given at least 12 hours of moderate sunlight per day, then it’s growth will increase because plants need sunlight to increase in size.
