What is illness anxiety disorder?
A disorder where a person interprets normal physical sensations as symptoms of a disease
What is social anxiety disorder?
Intense fear of social situations, leading to avoidance of them
What is agoraphobia?
Fear or avoidance of situations, such as crowds or wide open places
What is conversion disorder?
A disorder where a person experiences specific genuine physical symptoms but no physiological basis can be found
What are phobias?
An anxiety disorder marked by a persistent fear and avoidance of a specific object, activity, or situation
What is panic disorder?
An anxiety disorder marked by unpredictable, minute long episodes of intense dread
What physical symptoms occur during a panic attack?
Choking, chest pain, frightening sensations, and a terror
What is generalized anxiety disorder?
An anxiety disorder where a person is continually tense, apprehensive, and in a state of autonomic NS arousal
What is the DSM-5?
A widely used system for classifying psychological disorders
What is the medical model?
The concept that diseases have physical causes that can be diagnosed, treated, and cured usually through treatment in a hospital
What is ADHD?
A psychological disorder marked by one or more of 3 key symptoms:
- Extreme inattention
- Hyperactivity
- Impulsivity
What is a psychological disorder?
A syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance in an individuals cognition, emotion, regulation, or behavior
What are anxiety disorders?
Psychological disorder characterized by distressing, persistent anxiety, or maladaptive behaviors that reduce anxiety
What is OCD?
A disorder characterized by unwanted repetitive thoughts and/or actions
What is PTSD?
A disorder characterized by haunting memories, nightmares, social withdrawal, jumpy anxiety, numbness, and insomnia that last longer than 4 weeks after a traumatic experience
