After the death of her husband, Lia’s mother started to drink alcohol excessively.
Identify five short term effects of drinking an excessive amount of alcohol.

Lia and Kai have been living with their foster parents for three months.
Describe two ways in which Lia’s socialisation may be affected by this change in circumstances.

Explain how Kai might be emotionally affected by the change in his circumstances.
· Grieving due to loss of father
· Embarrassed / angry by mother’s drink problem /inability to cope/moving to foster care
· Uncomfortable with attention on him (6)
· Feels responsible for sister and mother/anxious
· Lowered self esteem/negative self concept
· Depressed and sad/stressed/upset
· Missing friends to talk to

· Relief of stress on move to foster care.
When the children are reunited with their mother, the family will be living on a much lower income.
Discuss how living on a lower income may affect the children’s development.

· Less exercise due to less activities

· Possibility of bullying
· Not able to keep up with trends
· Mother may have to work so more responsibility for Kai

The above are negative factors, students may reverse for positive
e.g. closer family with cheap excursions such as museums; more
walking so healthier etc.
