- because of poor science education
- people don’t fully understand the idea of evolution - Cultural influences
- religious forces that go against the ideas of evolution

The world as we know it particularly the complexity that is evident, could not have come about through natural processes; so we use supernatural explanations. (something we cannot explain
what is science
system or strategy to try to understand, test and check how the world around us works
Seperate Magisteria
- strategy for allowing religion and science to play a role.
- Science and religion are diff. spheres of influence and should be kept completely separate without overlapping or connecting

what is science good for?
- helping to understand the world around us-> through scientific studies
- Self-correcting-re-run experiments, fix mistakes
science limitations
- science can’t play a role in morality
- cant run experiment to test morality or opinion.
ex: fashion-which is an opinion- cant be tested
Young-Creationism
Earth is relatively young
-thousands of years old and created in a short period of time 6 days.
Gap- Creationism
Allows possibilities of spans between 6 days of creation.
Day 1- 3,000 years later day 2- 4,000 years later day 3
Day-age creationism
- days may represent millions of years
- used the word days figuratively
Intelligent Design
takes god out of the equation
Butter act
- separation of church and state-scopes found guilty for teaching creationism -butter act overided.
- Butter act-illegal to teach any theory that denies story of the divine creation
Scopes trial
U.S supreme court rules in Epperson v Arkansas that such bans contravene the establishment clause because their primary purpose is religious.
