Unit #10: Chromosomal Genetics Flashcards
Which animals have heterozygous sex chromosomes for the male?
Humans, fruit flies.
Which animals have homologous sex chromosomes for the male?
Birds and other reptiles
What are some animals that do not have sex chromosomes?
Bees and wasps, turtles, alligators
What is the “normal” x-linked allele in a population denoted as.
w+ (wild type)
In sex linked inheritance patterns, mostly males make up what phenotype?
Recessive
What is a barr body?
An inactivated, condensed X chromosome.
What are linked genes?
2 genes on the same chromosome.
What are the gametes called if chromosomes crossover and then genes assort apart?
Recombinant genes.
What are the gametes called when the genes assort together?
Parental type gametes
What happens to recombination when two genes are over 50 map units apart?
They recombine as often as they don’t.
What happens to recombination frequency the further two genes are? Why?
Recombination frequency increases, because the space between the genes AKA the potential site of crossover increases.
