Unit 10 Flashcards
Vertex
The middle angle
EX.
Vertex in triangle DYT is Y
Triangle
3 sided polygon
Line Segments
The sides of a triangle
2 classification ways for triangles
Angles and sides
4 types of angles
- acute = less than 90
- obtuse = more than 90
- right = exactly 90 (corner)
- straight = exactly 180 (straight line)
Ways to classify a triangle by ANGLES
- acute = all acute angles
- obtuse = one obtuse angle
- equilateral = all equal angles
- right = one right angle
Ways to classify a triangle by SIDES
- scalene = no equal sides
- isosceles = 2 equal sides
- equilateral = all equal sides
Pythagorean Theorem
The theory that if you add up the area of the squares of the legs of a right triangle, you will get the area of the square of the hypotenuse
(a^2 + b^2 = c^2)
Sides of a right triangle
Legs are next to the right angle, which form the right angle (a and b)
the Hypotenuse is across from the right angle (c)
Adjacent

Polygon
- closed figure
- 3.. line segments
- sides intersect only at end points
Non Polygons
- A circle or cone
- a bow tie like figure
- an open figure (the letter Z)

Regular Polygon
A polygon with congruent angles and sides
