What were the Economic reasons for expansion of major world powers?
-natural resources
For ex. Gold, diamond, cotton, rubber, timber
-sent resources to be manufactured in “home” country
- cheap human labour
- markets for manufactured goods went to the colonies
-profits back to the imperial power
-“Warm water ports”,having access and ability for navy to travel around the world
What were the political reasons for imperialism
- Power and prestige was associated with being an imperial power
- potential power struggles for example south Africa between the Dutch and the British and Japan/Russia and the Korean Peninsula
