a literalist takes everything word for word. a contextualist interprets meaning from the Bible.
The Catholic Church uses the fundamentalist approach.

literature, culture, history, audience
how do you write an abbreviation or shorthand for a biblical verse or passage? ◎
book name abbreviation. chapter # : verse #
how do you use footnotes and cross references notes in the bible?
footnotes say the book name abbreviation and where to find it. cross reference notes tell you where/when else the event happens.
