UNIT 1: Technology - Plastics Flashcards
What are thermoplastics
Thermoplastics are made up of lines of molecules with a few cross linkages this allows them to soften up when heated and to be bent into a variety of shapes and forms. They become stiff and solid again when cold. This process can be repeated many times
What are thermosetting plastics
Are made up of lines of molecules which are heavily cross linked. It creates a very rigid molecular structure. this may be heated first time and shaped but become permanently stiff and solid and cannot be reshaped again
