What is beech uses
Furniture, floors, veneers & wooden toys
Beech advantages & disadvantages & colour
Hard, tough and strong. Withstands wear and shock
Not suitable for outside work because it is not good when moisturised
European oak uses disadvantages and advantages & colour
Boat building, exterior door, garden furniture, flooring
Very strong and durable it is both hard and strong. Easier to use than beech.
Heavy and expensive, prone to splitting
African mahogany uses disadvantages and advantages & colour
Shop fittings, exterior doors, garden furniture, veneers
Warps, hardness varies
What is a veneer
A thin decorative covering of wood applied to a cheaper wood
What is a laminate
A man made product, usually plastic which covers another material. Some times made to look like wood grain
What is Parana pine uses disadvantages and advantages & colour
Staircases & furniture. joinery work.
It is the best quality internal softwood and attractive grain.
Lacks toughness, tends to warp and can be expensive
Western red cedar uses disadvantages and advantages & colour
Cladding for the outside of buildings
resistant to insect attack because of natural preservative oil
Not strong, more expensive then red or white woood
