Unit 1 - Sensory Receptors and Sensation Flashcards
1
Q
Sensation
A
Information detected by receptors, carried to CNS by PNS.
2
Q
Perception
A
How CNS processes/Interprets the info (not always the same as Sensation).
3
Q
Sensory Adaptation
A
Brain can filter out insignificant info (ex. feeling clothes touching skin).
4
Q
Types of Sensory Receptors
A
1) Photoreceptors
2) Chemoreceptors
3) Mechanoreceptors
4) Thermoreceptors
5
Q
Photoreceptors
A
Detects light (ex. rods & cones of the eye).
6
Q
Chemoreceptors
A
Detect chemical molecules (ex. tastebuds).
7
Q
Mechanoreceptors
A
Detect physical/mechanical forces (ex. hair cells in the ear).
8
Q
Thermoreceptors
A
Detect temperature (ex. hear receptors in the skin).
