Define concrete logical thinking

What are the four stages of cognitive development?
Sensorimotor (0-2)
Preoperational (2-7)
Concrete operational (7-11)
Formal operational (11-18)
What happens in the sensorimotor stage?
Interaction using senses
learning through trial and error
object permanence develops (8 MONTHS)
0-2 years
What happens in the preoperational stage?
Development of language
Make-believe play takes place
Egocentric thinking
parallel play
2-7 years
What happens in the concrete-operational stage?
Develop the ability to conserve
less egocentric
Concrete logical thinking
7-11 years
Whay happens in the formal operational stage?
Developed abstract thinking
11-18 years
What is the acronym for piagets stages of cognative development?
SPCF
What year does the sensorimotor stage take place?
0-2 years
What year does the preoperational stage take place?
2-7 years
What year does the concrete operational stage take place?
7-11 years
What year does the formal operational stage take place?
11-18 years
What activities can promote the sensorimotor stage?
Play with toys which make noises or peekaboo
What activities can promote the preoperational stage
Play dress up or house
What activities can promote the concrete operational stage
Give them counters to solve problems
What activities can promote the formal operational stage
writing short stories or poetry
What is a schema?

How does a child first reach a state of equilibrium?
Developing concepts about the world around them

as a child experiences new information
What is the key-term for when a schema is upset?
disequilibrium
After being in a state of disequilibrium, how does a child return to a state of equilibrium
As new info is accomodates, the schema is modified or changed
What are three strengths of piagets research?
Influenced early education
Considers nature and nurture
His ideas have stimulated further research, increasing the knowledge on childrens cognative development
