Unit 1 Part 1 Flashcards
What is ‘Ecology of Knowledge’
- ‘how knowledge was created and re-created in various situations/contexts
- how knowledge was produced, distributed, discussed and shared’
hydroponics
food production method that replaces soil with another substance that enriches the water with nutrients so it along can nourish the roots of the plant (allow for the vertical growing of plants)
where does most of the world’s food production come from?
soil
arable land
‘land suitable for growing crops’
‘land with fertile (non-contaminated soil in areas where the climate’ optimizes growth of plants for animals or humans nourishment.
interesting how climate change affects air masses
Climate change creates warming of the poles and the subsequent slowing down of air masses that stay in place for a long time( More stagnant air that traps pollution), resulting in floods or blizzards in case of strong low pressure systems, heat waves in case of high pressure systems etc.
agricultural land reserve (ALR
land reserved for agriculture
in BC, Quebec and NF
stewardship
‘the job of supervising or taking care of something, such as an organization or property.’
