Unit 1 (Human Factors) Flashcards
Define ergonomics
Understanding the interactions among humans and other elements of a system, and applying data and theory to better design these systems.
Define anthropometic data
Measurements of the human body, eg. height, arm length, etc.
Distinguish between static and dynamic anthropometrics
Static- measurements of length between points on a body
Dynamic- measurements of movement, reach or strength
How are percentiles used?
The nth percentile indicates a value that n% of the population fall under.
What is a nominal scale?
A scale used for labelling non-quantitative values, such as checkboxes for gender, nationality or favourite food.
What is an ordinal scale?
A scale used to indicate significance or importance, along a continuum (eg. happy to unhappy, or satisfied to unsatisfied).
What is an interval scale?
A scale used to represent the order of values, as well as the difference between them (eg. temperature, the difference between -2 and 5 is the same as 4 and 11 degrees)
What is a ratio scale?
Similar to interval scales, but with no negative values- representing the order of values and the difference between them (eg. kitchen scales, speedometer)
