Q

what is octreotide

A

Somatostatin receptor ligands (SRLs), inhibt GH secretion

*somatostatin itself is rarely used bc half life is only a few min

Q

what is pegvisomat?

A

GH analoge that has been modifed to bind to one site on GH receptor w/ higher affinity than native mol, but other bidnign site it inactive

binds tightly to monomeric GH receptor but prevents dimerization required for activation (acts as competitive antagonist)

*most potent IGF-1 reducing potential, but inc GH levels because of decreased IGF-1 mediated feedback
