Unit 1: Classification of Movement Tasks Flashcards
Discrete Tasks
Have a definite beginning and end. You know when it starts and ends. (Many of the tasks and transfers OT’s do with clients are discrete and a child kicking a ball)
Continuous Tasks
Tasks that do not have a definite end. The person performing the task must choose when to stop
Ex. Running or riding a bike
Closed Tasks
Closed movements occur in a relatively fixed and predictable environment
(Ex. Teeing off and hitting the ball at the same target with the same club)
-Looking for consistency of movement, the person performing the task uses a limited number of movement patterns, and the skills can be planned in advance
Open Tasks
Open skills require many different movement patterns (aka movement diversity)
-Ex: Playing volleyball since player must always adapt to an unpredictable environment
Stability Tasks
Tasks performed while the individual is sitting or standing with a non-moving BOS
Mobility Tasks
Performed with a moving base of support
ex. Jogging
Manipulation Tasks
Involves an individual using their upper extremities to achieve a goal
