nature vs nurture
nature - HEREDITARY transmission of characteristics via genes
nurture - ENVIRONMENT experiences, objects and events we are exposed to throughout our lifetime.
biopsychosocial model
framework for understanding the human experience in terms of biological, psychological and social factors.
critical and sensitive periods
CRITICAL PERIOD - specific skill or function must be learnt
SENSITIVE PERIOD - optimal period for specific skill or function to be learnt
adaptive vs maladaptive behaviours
ADAPTIVE - enables individual to adjust.
MALADAPTIVE - interferes with individuals ability to adjust.
neurodivergence
variation in neurological development and functioning.
typical vs atypical behaviours
TYPICAL - consistent with usual behaviours.
ATYPICAL - don’t align with usual behaviours.
biological aspect of bps model
internal genetic and/or physiological based factors.
psychological aspect of bps model
internal factors to do with mental processes including cognition, thoughts, affect, beliefs, attitudes.
social aspect of bps model
external factors relating to interactions with others and external environment.
