A

a delicate cable of nerve fibres that convey messages from the brain to the PNS and the PNS to the brain

Q

The Peripheral nervous system

A

is the complete network of neurons located outside of the CNS comprising of muscles, glands and organs. It carries sensory information from sensory organs to the CNS and conveys information from the CNS to the muscles, glands and organs.

Q

the somatic nervous system:

A

senses external stimuli and coordinates voluntary response it involves receiving sensory stimuli and relaying that to the CNS. It also controls the skeletal muscles attached to bones enabling voluntary movement eg. Walking and talking

Q

how does the messages travel ( what track)

Q

autonomic nervous system

A

autonomic nervous system: its main role is to control involuntary body functions that help to keep us alive eg. Heart rate, respiration ect. To is the division which controls the activity level of our internal organs and glands. If is self regulating and functions automatically

Q

the sympathetic nervous system

A

is a branch of the ANS that alters activity levels of internal muscles, organs and glands to physically prepare out bodies for high times of stress, emotions or physical arousal. It controls our arousal. It acts like our bodies emergency system which is known as flight, fright, or freeze.

Q

the parasympathetic nervous system:

A

calms and relaxes the body once the threat/ stressor has passed. It maintains homeostasis and keeps our internal systems balanced and in a healthy state.
