4 Anatomical Position Criteria
Body erect
Feet slightly apart
Palms face forward
Thumbs point away from the body
Superior/inferior
Above/Towards The Skull
Cranial/caudal
Cranial means toward the head, while caudal means toward the tail
Anterior/posterior
Anterior means the front of the body, while posterior means the back
Medial/lateral
Towards Middle of Body/Away from Middle of Body
Intermediate
Between Two Structures
Dorsal / Ventral
Backside/Frontside of Body
Proximal / Distal
Closer/Further to the point of attachment to the body
Superficial (External) / Deep (Internal)
Closer/Further from the outside of the body

Orbital: Refers to the eye socket area
Nasal: Refers to the nose region
Buccal: Refers to the cheek area
Oral: Refers to the mouth region
Mental: Refers to the chin area

Neck Region and contains the cervical spine

Sternal: Refers to the sternum (breastbone)
Axillary: Refers to the armpit area
Mammary: Refers to the breast area

Abdominal and what is contains
Abdominal: This refers to the abdomen, the region of the body between the thoracic (chest) and pelvic areas. Contains the Umbilical area: Refers to the area around the navel (belly button)
Pelvic Area
Refers to the pelvis region, which is the lower part of the torso between the abdomen and the thighs. It houses parts of the reproductive organs, bladder, and rectum, and provides support for the spine and attachment points for the legs. Contains the Inguinal: Refers to the groin area, where the thigh meets the pelvis
Pubic Area
Pubic refers to the area of the body around the pubic bone
2 Posterior/dorsal Parts of Cephalic
Otic: Refers to the ear region
Occipital: Refers to the back of the head or the occipital bone at the lower part of the skull

Acromial: Refers to the acromion process, the bony prominence on the shoulder, at the top of the shoulder blade (scapula)
Brachial: Refers to the upper arm
Antecubital: Refers to the front of the elbow
Antebrachial: Refers to the forearm
Carpal: Refers to the wrist area, specifically the carpal bones that make up the wrist joint

Pollex: Refers to the thumb
Palmar: Refers to the palm of the hand
Digital: Refers to the fingers (or digits) of the hand

Femoral: Refers to the thigh area
Patellar: Refers to the knee area, specifically the patella, or the kneecap
Crural: Refers to the lower leg, specifically the area between the knee and the ankle
Fibular (or Peroneal): Refers to the lateral side of the lower leg

Tarsal: Refers to the ankle area, specifically the tarsal bones in the foot
Digital: Refers to the toes
