Unit 1 (A) Flashcards
What are the 2 Types of data
Qualitative
Quantitative
What is qualitative data (another name for it also)
Categorical data - group data in diff categories based on specific characteristics
What is quantitative data
Numerical data
What data does a histogram display
Large sets of quantitative data
When are relative frequencies used in a histogram
when comparing distributions of different size populations
What is the center
which separates the values (or area under the curve in the case of a histogram) roughly in half
What is the spread
the scope of the values from smallest to largest
What is a cluster
which show natural subgroups into which the values fall
What is a gap
which show holes where no values fall
What is an outlier
Extreme values
What is the mode
The major peak(s) of a distribution
What is unimodal
1 Peak in the distribution
What is bimodal
2 Peaks in the distribution
How to describe a graph (acronym)
SOCS Shape Center Spread Outliers/gaps
5 Diff common shapes
Skewed left Skewed right Uniform Symmetric Bell shaped
What is a distribution that is skewed left
Rises in the right
Spreads thinly toward the lower values.
What is a distribution that is skewed right
Rises in the left
Spreads thinly toward the higher values.
What is a uniform distribution and what graph
Histogram
Is a horizontal line.
What is a symmetric distribution
The two halves of the graph are mirror images of each other.
What is a bell shaped distribution
Is symmetric, a center mound and 2 sloping tails.
