Unit 1 Flashcards
Homologous Structures?
Similar Structures in different organisms who have a common ancestor
What makes Homologous structures different?
They are from two different species who evolved from the same acnestor
What is divergent evolution?
When a common ancestor results in species with distinctly different attributes
What are analogous structures?
Structures which evolve form two different ancestors to a similar result
What is coevolution?
When a species evolves because it’s species evolves.
What are molecules made up of?
Atoms
How do plants receive food?
From photosynthesis and nutrients in the earth.
What are produces, consumers and decomposers?
Producers make food, Consumers consume the food, and Decomposers break down the consumers and create food for the producers.
What is the 10% rule?
That only 10% of the energy from producers goes into the consumers.
Biomass
The mass of an entire species
Types of relationships
Mutualism, Parasitism, Communalism
Mutualism
Beneficial for both groups
Parasitism
One is benefited and the other is negatively impacted
Communalism
One benefits and the other is not impacted.
