Owner > Manager + Manager > Employees.
Communication tends to be good but there is less promotion opportunities.
Hierarchical/Tall structures
Director > Manager + Manager > Assistant + Assistant > Team Leader > Employees.
Supervision is closer so less mistakes but there can be poor communication.
Centralised
Decentralised
Matrix
Manager for each functional area > Team leader for different projects > Team for each project> Employees.
Close collaboration between departments (Greater efficiency) but team members might not know who their line manager is.
Functional approach
Focus on the functional areas of the business.
Product approach
Focus on the different products produced by the business.
Geographic approach
Focuses on the physical locations the business operates in.
