Unit 1-2.1-Responding to change Flashcards
What do the receptors there for?
The nervous system has receptors to detect stimuli.
Where are the receptors found?
The receptors are found in the sense organs, the eye, ear, nose, tongue and skin.
What does light stimulate?
Light stimulates receptors in the eye and electrical impulses then pass to the brain along neurons (nerve cells).
What are some examples of stimuli?
Other stimuli include sound, chemicals, temperature changes, touch and pain.
What does the brain do in all this?
The brain coordinates many responses to many stimuli.
What forms the central nervous system?
The brain and spinal cord form the central nervous system.
What contains neurons?
Nerves contain neurons.
What do sensory neurons do?
Sensory neurons carry impulses from the receptors to the cns.
What the motor neurons do?
Motor neurons carry impulses from the cns to the effector organs which may be muscles or glands.
How do the muscles and glands respond?
The muscles respond by contracting. The glands respond by secreting chemicals.
