UNIT 1 Flashcards
What are called the longitude lines?
Meridians
What are called the latitude lines?
Parallels
What are the parallels?
The parallels are imaginary lines. The most known is the Equator that divides the Earth into 2 hemispheres: the North Hemisphere and the South Hemisphere.
What are the meridians?
The meridians are imaginary lines. The most known is the Greenwich Meridian that divides the Earth into 2 halfs East and West.

·The years=365 days and 6h
·Every 4 years=new day. (6 extra hours*4 years) This is called LEAP YEAR.
·Causes the seasons
Name the 5 most known parallels
Equator
Tropic of Cancer
Tropic of Capricorn
Artic Circle
Antartic Circle
What is rotation?
Rotation is one of the two movements of the Planet Earth. It causes:
-Day and night. It last 24h
-Its axis is tilted 23º. This means that in some places now is daytime and in other places is nightime.
