Household labour force survey (HLFS)

What: A sample survey, specifically designed to provide consistent and accurate measurement of employment trends in the labour market.
This is the official measure of unemployment.

The Census
A
A survey, carried out every 5 years to gain the official count of how many people there are in New Zealand. It provides the most complete picture of life in our cities, towns, suburbs, and rural areas.

The Registered Unemployed
A
The number of people registered as job seekers at Work and Income New Zealand offices (WINZ). You have to register at WINZ to be eligible for any form of unemployment payment.
