What is venturi effect?
There are areas of increased water pressure at teh bow and stern and areas of decreased water pressure (suction) amidships. The venturi effect results from the differences in velocity in the flow of water around the hull
When ships of the same size are alongside, what is their best position?
Exactly abeam
When ships are alongside, and the approach ship is considerably smaller than the control ship, what is their best positions?

Sound-powered phones, bridge-to-bridge radios, and hand signals, because of the minimal amount of noise generated. However, the general announcing system (IMC), bullhorns and voice radio circuits can be used to ensure rapid ship-to-ship communications

By only one wire rope clip or specially designed clamp that will allow the bitter end of the wire rope to slip free of the drum during an emergency breakaway
When are the explosive-charged velocity pole type wire rope cutters used?
To cut non tensioned wire ropes and lines during an emergency breakaway if there is danger to the ship’s structure
