A rapid and accurate system of handling maneuvering and information signals of reasonable length during daylight between ships within sights of each other

THe double thickness of bunting-taped, bound and stitched which is at the list of a flag

A short length of halyard attached to the lower part of the tabling
What is the function of the tail line of a flag?
It serves as a spacer, separating the flags of a hoist for clearness in reading signals
What is attached to the top of the tabling and snaps into the tail line of the preceding flag or hook of the halyard?

A 6-foot length of braided signal halyard with a ring at one end and a snap hook at the other

To separate signals or groups of numerals taht if not separated could convey a different meaning from that intended
