An upper and lower platform that is connected by the ladder and supported by either a chain or wire bridle and bail hanging by a pendant. An H-frame is also attached to the lower platform.

it is equipped with fenders so that boats can come alongside t o pick up or discharge passengers

Ports called shoes. These shoes have pads attached to their ends to help prevent damage to the ship or ladder

A brace known as a wishbone
