Understanding PA and Exercise Flashcards
Isometric contracts produce
No change in joint angle
Static contractions have strength gains
in only one joint position, not over a ROM
Isotonic contractions
produce a change in the affected joint angle
dynamic movement allows
muscle strength to occur over a full ROM
Definition of exercise:
any planned, structured, repetitive, and purposeful activity that seeks to improve or maintain any component of fitness
Physical fitness
set of attributes that people have or achieve that relates to the ability to perform physical activity
CAD risk factor thresholds for men and women- age, family history, smoking history, lifestyle, obesity classification/waist circumference,
men: age 55 and older- women: age 65 or older, immediate family history of MI, cardiac revascularization, sudden cardiac death, smoking in last 6 months or still smoking, sedentary lifestyle, BMI of over 30 or waist circumference over 40 for men and over 35 for women
HTN classification
140/90 or on medication
Dyslipidemia: LDL levels and HDL levels:
high LDL at 130 mg/DL or low HDL below 40 mg/Dl or on medication
Prediabetes classification
FBG between 100-125 2 hours post test
Diabetes classification
FBG above 125 2 hours post test
What is the negative risk factor classification
HDL above 60 mg/dL
Syncope
Dizziness
CPM Disease Signs/Symptoms- pain, dyspnea, syncope during exercise, edema, palpitations, claudication, heart murmurs or arrhythmias,
pain in chest, neck, jaw, arms, and other areas due to ischemia- dyspnea at light or no exertion, syncope due to low blood flow to brain from decreased CO in heart due to CVD, edema due to CHF or other diseases, claudication due to decreased blood flow to working muscles, abnormal heart rate and sounds
Two exceptions to CPM diseases
well-controlled asthma and newly diagnosed diabetes
